Program Description
How Our Career Online High School Works
- Complete high school diploma program consists of 18 credit hours
- All online courses are 1 credit hour
- Students identify a “major” in one of the following programs of study: Childcare & Education, Office Management, Healthcare (available in Fall 2011), Certified Protection Officer, Homeland Security, or Transportation Services
- Registrar analyzes student transcripts and builds an individualized career plan for each student
- To receive a high school diploma, students must take a minimum of "5" courses at Smart Horizons Career Online High School
- Courses are self-paced and taught in an online learning environment available to all students 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
- Courses combine academic content with applied career-based concepts, such as job-training requirements, job skills, technology competencies, and communication skills
- Students receive an individualized "pacing plan" within each of their courses to help manage their time in an efficient manner
- Individual academic coaches and certified teachers are available via email or IM for academic assistance in online courses
- Student academic grades and progress are maintained within an individualized grade book and can be accessed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
- Upon graduation, students receive a high school diploma and coursework completed toward earning a career-credentialed certificate
